Chiefs Or Eagles In The Big Game? New Hampshire Lottery Players Split

Tony Schinella

CONCORD, NH — New Hampshire Lottery players spent $7.2 million betting on last year’s Super Bowl.

Will bettors top that figure by Sunday?

The Kansas City Chiefs will be attempting to win their third straight title against the Philadelphia Eagles, and bettors in the Granite State are split in half on whether the Chiefs will pull off a “three-peat,” according to the New Hampshire Lottery. Players are also placing bets on other options, including picking Travis Kelce as MVP, total points over 48.5, and Saquon Barkley to score a touchdown.

Charlie McIntyre, the executive director of the New Hampshire Lottery, said DraftKings, the state’s sports betting vendor, will be updating prop bets and odds throughout the game, offering options such as next touchdown scorer, whether that touchdown will be running or passing, or the yardage of the longest touchdown. Players can also bet on the coin toss, a quarterback to catch a pass, a lineman to score a touchdown, and whether a kick attempt will hit the uprights.

“The Super Bowl is the single most significant sports betting event of the year considering the audience size and the breadth of options from choosing a winner, an MVP or a Taylor Swift-inspired prop — there’s a way for everyone to get in on the action,” he said. “The Super Bowl is a critical piece of our mission to generate the maximum revenue for New Hampshire public education. Alongside our partner, DraftKings, we expect significant betting to continue through kick-off and up until the Lombardi Trophy is handed out.”

Taylor Swift fans also have a list of “Swiftie Specials,” matched with songs and accomplishments by the players.

At press time, it is unknown how much money has been gambled on the game so far. Last year, bettors wagered $7.2 million.

DraftKings and the lottery “take responsible gaming seriously, and the state-of-the-art app offers consumers a number of responsible gaming tools, including limit setting, cooling-off periods, and self-exclusion,” officials said. The DraftKings Sportsbook app is available on both Apple and Google Play.

During the past 60 years, the lottery has contributed more than $2.8 billion to education in the state.
