Balsams Resort plans to host summer weddings, parties

Although the renovation and expansion of The Balsams Resort is still pending, the owner of the iconic venue in Dixville has announced that it will open this summer to host weddings and private parties.
“Since the resort closed in 2011, we have been contacted by scores of brides, all asking the same question, ‘when can I have my wedding at the beautiful Balsams?’” said Les Otten, who is both the resort’s owner and developer, in a prepared statement on Jan. 26.
Otten said The Balsams will be open for events as of July 30.
Otten said guests will be able to rent three houses for their functions – the Hale House, the Captain’s Cottage and the Tillotson House, which is being renovated – and will have “exclusive use of the resort’s property and all its various amenities,” including the Panorama golf course, biking, running and hiking trails and mountain lakes for fishing, swimming, canoeing and kayaking. There are streams nearby for fly fishing.
The Balsams “will tap into its culinary legacy to offer guests the finest wedding banquets from fresh, local, farm-to-table ingredients,” said Otten.
The Balsams can accommodate weddings of up to 150 people and will be available for wedding rentals through October 2021; upon request, it may also be available for winter weddings and small events.
